Architectural Design

How to start an architectural design
When I start an architectural design, I start by listing 5 essential pieces of information. These 5 points are Program, Site, Constraints, Concept and Design Requirements. By connecting these main points and the main brain will have enough information to start the architectural design.

Before starting an architectural design, an architect should first identify 5 key points.

Program
place
Limitations
Concept
Objectives
Initiation of architectural design

Program

What is a construction program?

The first step to any design would be to identify the program of the structure. Program is an architectural term for what type of structure it is and what is part of the structure. The program is therefore the use and general figure of the premises. If we wanted to design an apartment and build a program, for example, it could be a domestic structure with at least 50 units. However, how many scientists do they plan to house, how many classrooms and types of special rooms do they want the theater to have, if we were designing an academy we would want to know the age group. Everything that goes into a structure is called a Program; this is the first crucial point to be identified before starting the design of the structure. You cannot design a structure without knowing what it will be used for and how it should be used.

If you wanted me to design a structure for you and I could only ask one question, it would be what is a building program?

An alternative step in gathering information before starting an architectural design is point identification. The point for the new structure is extremely critical and will greatly affect the design. You cannot create a structure without a point, nor should you design one. In fact, I’ve had many people call me wanting me to design a structure for them without a bullet point. I find this really problematic. The point will inform the design if the structure. A point can influence an architectural design in many ways. A point analysis should be done before starting the architectural design. Furthermore, there are many points about the point that can affect the design of the structure.

Limitations

Architecture is built in the physical world and has numerous limitations. The related constraints in advance are decisive for the design of the structure. Knowing the limitations of the system is as important as knowing its eventuality. There are many limitations you can have on the design, but I will list many common zoning codes

Building regulations
Budget
Local work
Material availability
Concept

what’s the idea Is there an introductory architectural concept of the structure? I would try to determine the design concept before starting any specific design.

Objectives

Before starting the design, the engineer and his customer must create a set of requirements. There are many different design requirements and they should be outlined as early in the process as possible.

One example of a thing for someone building a house might be to design a sustainable house. Another thing for an inventor who builds an apartment building may be profit maximization. The academy may have something to suggest for better literacy and safety. The gallery might want to design something to erect a creative and innovative piece of armature. A commercial headquarters may have something about branding and image.

5 PHASES OF THE ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN PROCESS
You might have wondered what the different stages are in arranging architectural design services. Be it a hostel, home design fixture, store, storage, warehouse, artificial or retail store, etc. In this composition, we will explain all the phases that are part of the design figure of a new construction/development design.
There are typically 5 architectural design phases involved in the design-build of any project.

These 5 stages/stages are

1 – DRAFT (PD)

The first ideal is to meet with the customer and determine the overall design vision and requirements. Regardless of whether it is home, health care, artificial care, hospitalization, there are several crucial areas that need to be changed to design – compass, features, purpose and functionality. At this stage we perform

Consultation with the client
Survey and documentation of existing conditions
Photo
Measurement
Compile existing drawings, if any
Prepare basic high-level drawings
Calculation of probable construction/construction costs
Programming space and usage
Code review
This phase ends with the owner’s decision to move forward with the project.

2 – SCHEMATIC DRAWING (SD)

At this stage we will make a series of rough sketches to illustrate the initial generalities of the design. At this time, the original survey of original compliance and regulations is also completed.

At the end of this phase we deliver

Floor plans of all levels with general openings and plumbing fixtures
Exterior building facades with representative openings and finishes
Building section
A typical part of the wall
And we move to the next stage with the consent of the owner.

3 – DESIGN DEVELOPMENT (DD)

Design development gathers results from the schematic design phase and takes them one step further. This phase includes finalizing the design and specifying details such as additions, window and door placement, and general construction details.

At the end of this phase we deliver

Floor plans with a proposed basis for the design of openings and fixtures
Overall dimensions
Dimensions of the structural network
Internal wall dimensions
Exterior views with proposed foundation of structural openings and terminations
Other construction parts
Wall sections under all typical conditions
Typical details
More details to create a base for design products
We have now given shape to the project vision through drawings and written specifications.

4 – CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS (CD)

For now, we have the final design. We can begin to prepare construction staking arrangements, notes and specialized specifications necessary for tendering, construction and permit operations. Construction contractors will use these detailed drawings and specifications to prepare the construction.

At this stage we deliver

Floor plans fully commented
All sizes
Room, wall, door and window identification
Section and detail indicators
General notes and detailed notes
Exterior views fully annotated
All building parts needed for construction
Wall sections in all conditions
Details fully commented
Structural plans, details and notes
Plumbing plans, plans, details and notes
HVAC plans, plans, details and notes
Electric Power and Lighting Plans, Plans, Details and Notes
And we move to the final stage

5 – CONSTRUCTION

Construction is finally underway.

During this phase we will manufacture according to the design intent. Also, if there are any changes, we will agree on changes and options with the owner. It ensures that the differences are consistent with the owner’s vision of the design. This is the last phase and at the end of this phase the project is ready for occupancy/residence.
